Sujatra Saree

Amazon India Fashion Week 2017 Featuring sarees!!!

Vogue India curates its first ever runway show at Amazon India Fashion Week 2017. The renowned magazine in its 10th year celebrated the decade of fashion in India. A special show titled ‘Saree 27/7’ was featured, showcasing the works of 60 leading designers. So its official now – the love for sarees has well crossed the boundaries of South East Asia to go global. Fashion director Anaita Shroff Adajania described the concept behind the initiative as “Each of the leading India’s best designers creating one-of-a-kind sarees and going with the mood of what the saree means to them. What we are really celebrating is the democracy of the saree today.” Absolutely true, isn’t it?

Saree has crossed the threshold of its conventional patterns to emerge as a fusion wear today. It was well evident in the showcase of sarees in this event. Dhruv Kapoor’s skirt saree with a corset, Huemn’s parka – inspired silhouette and Rajesh Pratap Singh’s hooded and gloved saree were sure-fire firsts. At Sujatra, we were more than just happy to witness the way to celebrate the milestone by empowering our country’s strongest style staple?

Vogue’s ‘Saree 24/7’, a collection featuring different versions of the nine yard favourite saw the elite of the fashion hub. Fifty of India’s most prolific labels including Manish Malhotra, Raw Mango, Abraham and Thakore, Rahul Mishra, Suneet Verma, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla came together to give a larger than life picture to the most celebrated Indian garment of all times. Unique drapes, handloom weaves, party ready versions and cool girl casuals were all part of this fashion extravaganza. As Vogue India editor, Priya Tanna puts it, “Vogue India has always celebrated the best of fashion, and for us, that begins with the most symbolic and timeless piece of clothing, the sarees.”

All in all, it was a milestone event that bought together the best designers of India to put the spotlight on our favourite garment. As Vogue India, the bible of fashion celebrates sarees, we at Sujatra contribute to the same fervour with our initiative of producing unmatched elegance of traditional drapes. Come on India, let’s dance to the music of saree!!

Sound of Music at the Mirchi Music awards 2017

The music fraternity of Bollywood had a gala time honouring talents amongst themselves at the Mirchi Music awards 2017. The who’s who of the tinsel town was present to grace and enjoy the evening; to paint the red with their fun, cheers and laughter. The star-studded evening was attended by many biggies of Bollywood including Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Shilpa Shetty, Anushka Sharma to name a few.

Usha Uthup was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award for her long and illustrious career. Her unconventional voice and rendition has won her several fans and accolades. Dressed in a black saree with mirchi motifs as border work, her style sense is always a pleasure to witness. I remember watching her in another event wearing a Kanjeevaram silk paired with a pair of sneakers and of course her trademark huge bindi. Her stylish innovations are sure a delight to watch.

Among the other beauties walking the red carpet were a galaxy of stars who caught attention. Shilpa Shetty in her monochrome Paule Ka gown looked a stunner as always. Bright lips, a clutch bag and strappy stilettos completed her look. Alia Bhatt in a black Manish Malhotra separates looked her gorgeous self. She performed that evening too amidst cheers and claps.

Urvashi Rautela looked lovely in a Belluccio gown which she paired with Gimbattista Valli official shoes and Farah Khan jewellery.

Saree still is one of the first choice for Bollywood beauties when it comes to attending such functions. Divya Khosla Kumar looked every inch a style diva in her pastel green saree and embellished blouse.

Sophie Choudhary in a red gown with a cutout neckline sizzled hot on the red carpet. Sana Khan in a maroon and gold gown sure knows to ooze oomph in her gait and style. Singer Neha Bhasin who also hosted part of the event wore a sheer ensemble and looked gorgeous.

The exemplary work if the music industry of Bollywood is definitely commendable. From the team of Sujatra we congratulate the winners and send cheers to the musical extravaganza. Wish them many more years of developing innovative content, thus exciting its listeners and audiences!
